Agree or Disagree? We buy things we don’t need, with money we don’t have, to impress people we don’t like

This quote came up in a sermon at my church on Sunday, but I think the quote originally comes from the film Fight Club. Anyway, it made me think.

I certainly agree with the first two bits- quite often we do buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have. Most of our money is borrowed (mortgages, credit cards, overdrafts etc) and basically money these days is debt anyway (bit that’s getting into the whole money system which we’ll leave for now)!

The last bit “to impress people we don’t like” might be a bit harsh, but it does make you think! Why are we buying that “thing”? Do we ever examine our motives?

What do you think?
