Can you help? More steps to become a social media guru!

My last (ironic) article on how to become a social media guru became insanely popular and caused quite a stir. I have to say I really enjoyed it and it was quite a cathartic experience for me as I was able to write down quite a few of my pet hates in a humorous way. I also hope it was partly educational!

If you missed it, you can see the article here:

The next step…

I’m in the middle of the sequal – “20 More Steps…”* and I was wondering if you could share your pet hates with me and let me know what you think with my line up.

So far, I have:

– Block Criticism: Attack Others Openly Online

– Re-post Content Across All Time Zones (Don’t forget the Penguins)

– Be Inauthentic: Never be Yourself

– Always Quantity, Never Quality

-Look down on people with less followers or a lower Klout Score than You

– Dishonesty Always Pays

– Follow the Crowd Never your Instincts

– Never respond to blog comments (or don’t allow them)

-Always be Positive

– Trick People into Buying

– Don’t Create, Recycle

There are more, but that should give you an idea.

And, I’ll leave you with my thoughts on SEO…

SEO: Write for Robots not Humans

It’s all about SEO. You don’t need to actually know what SEO is or what its for except that its all about getting to the top of Google and getting to the top of Google is EVERYTHING! It doesn’t matter what you get to the top of Google for, just get to the top of Google for lots of stuff. If your blog is about digital marketing then why not try and get to the top of Google for unrelated words such as:

“tennis”

“pizza delivery”

“Himalayan beaver cheese”

“nasal hair”

“ocean current thermodynamics”

“World Tiddlywinks Championships 1977”

Some “low level” SEO types go on and on about searching for long tail keywords and use tools such as Long Tail Pro or Moz to search out relevant keywords to their niche. This is a total waste of time. By all means use these tools (and using tools for every job you do will certainly help you on your way to gurudom), but don’t bother with the research. Just go for long tail- and rank for silly words that no one is looking for. Remember that getting to the top of Google is all that counts!
