Ultimate Guide to Advanced Twitter Search

Ultimate Guide to Advanced Twitter Search

As well as a huge Google+ fan, I am a big Twitter fanatic. That wasn’t always the case. Despite being an early adopter (late 2006) I initially didn’t get Twitter, but after a few years I got hooked. One of the cool things about Twitter (and the same with Google) is the way you can search for what people are saying right now about a particular topic. It’s fun. I remember Mark Schaefer talking about this at a social media conference a year or so back- mentioning doing a Twitter Search for “printer hate”. If you’ve never done that before, do it now- it’s hilarious. You will be able to see what everyone is saying at the moment on hating their printer.

But Twitter search is much more useful than viewing people’s printer problems, you can go much more deeply than that. Did you know you can search for tweets with a particular sentiment? That’s powerful for brands- searching for tweets with a negative sentiment can iron out customer service issues very fast.

This guide by Ian Cleary goes into a lot of detail into using Twitter’s advanced search. There’s some great info here and it’s worth checking out.

Do you use advanced search for Twitter? How about Google+ search? Do you have any tips? If so, I’d love to know!
