Thinking time & Walking in the Snow

Thinking time & Walking in the Snow

Last Tuesday I more or less took the time off to have a “thinking day”. Life has been so busy over the past few months and I have felt things start to get on top of me. I did say to myself last year that I was going to have a day out every 2 months but that never really materialised.

These days are so important, they allow me to:

– Blow the cobwebs off (metaphorically speaking)

– Have some thinking time

– Pray

– Take stock of the past few months (what went well, what didn’t go so well)

– What are my objectives for the short, medium and long term

– What are my goals and why?

I don’t know why, but I always seem to be reluctant to spend the time on these days, but when I do they are always so productive. I might not be working (as such), but these days out allow me to get things into perspective and I end up being much more productive as a result.

So, I ended up in Lyme Park- a National Trust property and grounds near where I live. It’s quite rugged and hilly and it was definitely very cold. It also started to snow. After 3 or so hours (and a nice lunch whilst I got my thoughts down on paper) I decided to go further into the wilderness and drove to Edale. Edale is in the Peak District and is up high. Wow- so beautiful and covered with snow. I’ll definitely be going back here- and next time I want to share the experience with my wife and kids.

So how about you? Do you take days out by yourself to put things in to perspective, have some thinking time and blow those cobwebs off? You might not think it’s your thing, but you might surprise yourself?

Why not try?!
