A post has an unusually large number of +1s and comments. Should I be concerned?

I know, I shouldn’t be complaining, but I am always a bit cautious and like to investigate when things happen out of the ordinary.

I love Google+ because there is so much more engagement on my posts- really interesting comments and a great conversation. I generally receive a lot more +1s on Google+ than likes on Facebook or retweets on Twitter.

Usually I get around 30-40 +1s sometimes a lot more- maybe 90 or 100. However a post this morning has received 1486 +1s, 255 reshares and 110 comments. I suppose I should be happy, and I am, however it just seems a little suspicious. It was an interesting post and the cartoon I shared was funny, but is it normal to get one post getting so much more engagement?

However, it’s the amount of low quality comments that concerns me. There are spammy comments and just one worders. Why do people do that and why is this post receiving so many? Is there a way to find out?
