Best Calendar & Contacts App?

Best Calendar & Contacts App?

I’m a massive fan of the Lifehacker site, and so it was my first port of call when it came to looking for the best software to manage my contacts, tasks and calendar. Whitson Gordon recommended Google Calendar and I’d agree if we were talking about web apps. However I am looking for a software solution that runs on Windows and syncs with my Android phone and other devices.

I’ve been using MS Exchange for quite a few years, but it doesn’t work that great for me. You see I use Thunderbird for all my email accounts (I have a lot- over 15 email accounts!) and I’ve been thinking that the best way forwards is to go over to Google Calendar and Contacts. It works really well on my Android phone but what can I use on my laptop? I’m forced to use the web app. That’s fine if you are online, but what if you’re not? I want a proper offline copy of my contacts and calendar.

Yes, Google offer offline access but there are big problems with this…

1) It doesn’t work if you have multiple Google accounts.

2) Doesn’t work if you delete your cookies and offline data (I use CCleaner regularly for security)

I’ve tried connecting Google calendar to Thunderbird but it is a horrible experience.

I’m all for this cloud based future, but it’s not great if your offline or want to use multiple accounts. Does anyone have any ideas?
