Why Google+ Will Never Back Down on Real Names

I’ve given some thought as to why Google wouldn’t just allow pseudonyms and thus avoid all the controversy.

My answer: Facebook Connect. Facebook already dominates online identity and Google is surely concerned that unless its sticks firm to real names, it will lose this battle. Rightly or wrongly, this seems like a strategic business decision.

Do you think Google+ will back down on allowing pseudonyms? Is the controversy going to harm them in the long run?
