Social Media and RSS Feeds- is RSS dead?

I’ve been frustrated about the lack of RSS support in all of the major social networks. I tweeted about the lack of RSS support in Twitter – https://twitter.com/#!/iagdotme/status/145652419257319426 and it looks like I’m not the only one to have an issue with this.

There are ways round, by using the various APIs, like this one for Twitter-

However in this case Twitter don’t allow you to add it to an RSS reader- it knows and gives you a 400 error. But, why?

Google+, why don’t you give the option of RSS feeds? It’s not that we don’t want to come to the web or mobile version, it’s just that we don’t want to miss anything important. If I could add an RSS feed of one of my circles it would be awesome!

Is it all a conspiracy? Is it just me that wants RSS feeds? Is RSS dead? Is RSS evil? Is RSS just for geeks? Am I going mad?!
