Social Oomph and Manage Flitter hacks

#socialmedia

I have to admit I’m not a massive fan of mass follow and unfollow tools. However, they do have their uses. Manage Flitter is great, as I can see who is not following me, or who are the potential spammers out there. The problem is, though, that Twitter doesn’t like automated tools either and has made the lives of the likes of Social Oomph and Manage Flitter difficult. Firstly they had to change their names, and secondly they had to get rid of any “select all checkboxes” functionality. This means you have to laboriously check or uncheck all the checkboxes for the people you want to follow or unfollow.

Social Oomph

I do like the “friend finder” on Social Oomph. It makes finding like minded people to follow very easy. I’m always on the look out for cool #socialmedia and #seo people so I get Social Oomph to find people based on keywords. What I wanted was to find a way of selecting all people on the screen and then untick the odd few that I didn’t want to follow. It’s not normally possible but if you use Google Chrome you can by pasting the following into the Javascript Console (Tools->Javascript Console):

$(“input#AccountA”).attr({checked:true});

This ticks the follow boxes for everyone using good ol’ jQuery. If you want to tick the follow boxes and also tick the “add to list” box (for those accounts where you have a Twitter list), then you can do this:

$(“input#AccountA”).attr({checked:true});

$(“input#AccountL”).attr({checked:true});

You can also get it to click the submit button, but I wouldn’ recommend this without checking that you do actually want to follow everyone:

$(“input#AccountA”).attr({checked:true});

$(“input#AccountL”).attr({checked:true});

$(“input[name=’submith’]”).trigger(‘click’);

Manage Flitter

The same thing is possible with Manage Flitter. For example if you want to unfollow everyone who doesn’t follow you, then you can paste the following into the Javascript console in Chrome:

$(“input[name=’unfollow[]’]”).attr({checked:true});

And the following clicks the submit button:

$(“input[name=’unfollow[]’]”).attr({checked:true});

$(“#buttonUnfollowAll”).trigger(‘click’)

If you have a Pro version of ManageFlitter you can whitemark people who you don’t want unfollowed- this makes it even easier.

So, what do you think. Are these tools you would use? As I said, I am not a massive fan of automated tools like these, but sometimes they do have their place.
