Why I might just close my HSBC account…
To be honest I don’t really use my HSBC account much any more, it’s just left over from my student days. However, today they made me really angry- they sent me a Security key (see photo). I need this whenever I access my online banking service. The thing is, I am now required to use it- I don’t have any choice!
Their reason (speaking to a poor guy from India) is for customer security, but I take big issue with that. Perhaps some customers use passwords such as password or 12345, but I take great care in my passwords and I like to use password managers such as Key Pass and Last Pass. All these methods are now redundant as I am forced to use this mini pocket calculator type thing.
It might be fantastic for some customers, but I want to be able to access my internet banking wherever I am (for example on my mobile). I don’t want to have to remember yet another thing. I always have my mobile, but I am not always going to remember my security key- and I am definitely likely to lose it. “…but if you lose it, just give us a ring and we’ll send you another one…” the gentleman from India explained. Hmmm, that’ll take how long?
Anyway, rant over. What do you think?
