Which link shortener do you use in your social strategy?
I have to say, I agree with Neil Ferree and say bitly (I do use goo.gl too).
The reason I use bit.ly is because it’s portable. I can use it in the majority of social tools that I use. For example Buffer, Friends+Me, IFTTT and more. Unfortunately Triberr doesn’t support it yet (at least for me). Also, Hootsuite famously doesn’t allow bit.ly (or goo.gl) integration- you are locked into using ow.ly.
The second advantage is that I can use branded short urls. For my iagdotme channels I use to.iag.me- that gives more exposure to my blog’s url (which is iag.me). For Select Performers we are using the short url, select.social.
The final advantage is portable analytics. We can see how many click-throughs across all our social channels no matter what tool we’ve used (as long as they integrate with bit.ly).
Of course, there are times when you wouldn’t want to use a url shortener. For example in a blog post, or in a newsletter (using the likes of MailChimp or AWeber). For these services, you are far better using the likes of Google Analytics for tracking.
So, how about you? Do you use url shorteners? If so, which one?
