Freedom Declared Website Launched last night at Westminster
I’ve been in London for the past few days primarily due to launching a website for Freedom Declared in Westminster-
Freedom Declared is the website for All Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief. It aims to raise the profile and awareness of international religious freedom or belief as a human right among parliament, media, government and the general public.
The web site was launched it Portcullis House just over the road from the Houses of Parliament. Such an iconic building and I never thought I’d get the chance to go inside.
Elizabeth Berridge (Baroness Berridge) chairs the Parliamentary Group and introduced the evening with an inspirational talk by Caroline Cox (Baroness Cox) about many injustices around the world.
It has been a real privilege to develop a website that will be used to help raise awareness about so many situations around the world where people of faith or belief are being persecuted. Many of us have heard of the Sudanese Christian, Meriam Ibrahim, who had to give birth in prison and still has the death sentence upon her, but there are many cases. We hope that this website will give people up to date information and enable people to take action. The website took a lot of hard work, and I have to thank Phil Grundy for the designs and Kay Carter and Stephen Rand for the content.
After the launch event we went through the underpass into the Houses of Parliament and had drinks in the House of Lords’ guest room. Now it’s not something that happens every day! Last night is going to stick in my memories for a long time. Elizabeth Berridge is such a humble person who works tirelessly, we need more of her in the House of Lords.
